Feast on antebellum splendor, local storytellers brimming with the colorful stories of Holly Springs’ past, costumed guides, Pilcher organ recitals in antebellum churches, gracious southern luncheons, tours of historic Hillcrest Cemetery guided by characters from Holly Springs’ past, free rides in antique carriages pulled by Percheron draft horses, one-of-a-kind arts & crafts as well as a traditional southern supper in one of our glorious mansions—Montrose!

Tour of Historic Homes, Churches, and Attractions

 

Montrose  -Open 10 am -5 pm Friday and Saturday

Athenia  -Open 10 am -2 pm Friday

Also featured on the Friday and Saturday ticket will be the Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery, the Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum, Church of the Yellow Fever Martyrs Museum, Christ Episcopal Church, First United Methodist Church, and the First Presbyterian Church.  There will be an organ recital at 1:00 pm on Friday at Christ Episcopal Church and a vocal performance at the First Presbyterian Church at 1:00 pm on Saturday.  Arts & Crafts Fair on the historic town square, re-enactors, docents dressed in period costume, carriage rides.

 

Tickets $35.00 per person or $30.00 for Seniors age 65 and older, and $30.00 for groups of 12 or more. Friday & Saturday.    Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling (662) 252-2365 or on the day of the tour at the Marshall County Library.  Tickets are not available for purchase at individual homes.  Groups may contact Lisa Childers (group tour coordinator) at 901-230-3576 for advance group arrangements.

The party begins at 2:30pm, when you can tour Montrose, enjoy delicious snacks, and a complimentary “Knock You Naked” margarita (cash bar available). At 3:30pm, Her Royal Highness will entertain the crowd and bring out your innerqueenliness! Later enjoy book signing, showcase your Sweet Potato Queen costume, and have your picture made with Jill! Montrose Under the Moonlight
Saturday 6 pm

Enjoy a southern supper under a canopy of moonlight, stars, and old magnolias.  Live music will be included during the evening along with the presentation of the 2010 Pilgrimage Queen, Miss Lauralee Elizabeth Fant, and her Escort, Mr. Henry Keith Owens, Junior.  This Saturday evening only event begins at 6:00 pm.  Reservations suggested by April 10th.  (662) 252-2365.  $30.00 per person.  Silent auction.  Cash Bar.  Location subject to change in the case of inclement weather.

 

Sunset on Salem- Carriage Tour
Friday  5pm- 7pm

Join us for the inaugural “Sunset on Salem Avenue”  tour on Friday, April 16th, from 5-7 pm.  $20.00 per person.  Begin this guided carriage tour at magnificent Montrose.  Guides will depart from Montrose every 30 minutes between the hours of 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm to escort guests along Salem Avenue, known in the 19th century as Holly Springs “Silk Stocking Row”.  As you ride up and down Salem, you will encounter costumed interpreters waiting to tell you fascinating facts and tall tales about the points of interest along the street.  Additionally, guests are invited to experience the interior elegance of two of Salem Avenue’s most spectacular homes:  Athenia and Montrose.  Come away with a true “sense of place” after your narrated tour of unique architecture and fascinating legend and lore along one of Holly Springs’ most storied streets!  Refreshments and light entertainment await upon your return to Montrose at the end of the tour.  A perfect way to wind down the day!  Call (662) 252-2365 for reservations or purchase tickets the day of the event.

 

A Walk Through Time
Tour of Hillcrest Cemetery    Saturday 10:00 am

HillcrestthumbHillcrest Cemetery is the setting for storytelling as local townspeople, dressed in costumes of the day, re-enacting roles of Holly Springs' most illustrious characters. The cemetery is also the resting place of 14 confederate generals, unknown soldiers from the Battle of Shiloh, first African American senator Hiram Revels, acclaimed writer Sherwood Bonner, who studied under Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and Kate Freeman Clark, a local painter who studied under William Merritt Chase.
Tours begin at 10 minute intervals Saturday 10 a.m.--12 p.m. Tickets are just $10 per person and children under 12 are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Call 662-252-2365 or 662-252-6479 for group pricing.

  
PILGRIMAGE 5K Walk/Run
Saturday 8:00 am

Lace up your shoes and get a “Sneak Peak” of Holly Springs’ historic attractions as you wind through this scenic and challenging 5K course.  The 2nd Annual Holly Springs Pilgrimage 5K Walk/Run will begin on Saturday at 8am with registration at 7am at the Courthouse Square.  RAIN OR SHINE! Carriage Rides
- Frank Swords’ team of Percheron draft horses will be pulling antique carriages down Holly Springs’ historic streets and will be available on a limited basis for rides during tour hours.

 

Re-Enactors and Living History Demonstrators

Confederate and Union Civil War re-enactors will be set up at various pilgrimage sites.  Also on hand will be demonstrations of spinning and weaving as well as other 19th century activities.
